Jim is annoyed when the latest phone bill arrives, before his daughter's wedding, and finds out someones been calling Aberdeen. Cheryl brings over the catalogue, and she and Denise decide to buy leather jackets. Meanwhile, Barbara is nervous about starting her new job at the bakers.

The family sit themselves in front of the TV, after having dinner, and are forced to listen to Jim's moan's about the cost of the wedding.

It's Sunday afternoon and Nana is visiting. Jim helps Antony do the dishes to avoid listening to nana's moaning. Meanwhile, Mary and Cheryl come over to help Denise try on on her wedding dress and Dave's recovering from a hangover.

It's Jim's birthday! The family celebrate in their own style with cake, booze and photos. Meanwhile, Denise has a hangover although she claims it's a headache due to stress, and Antony has a black eye after fighting with the Beswick brothers.

Denise and Dave come home from one of Dave's "gigs" arguing about Beverly Macca. Barbara consoles a drunk Denise, who tells her Dave was flirting with Beverly. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Dave tells Jim and Antony there was nothing in it. After a nice talk with Barbara and Jim she forgives Dave and the family engage in a sing-a-long with Jim's banjo.

The morning of Dave and Denise's wedding arrives. Everything is going wrong for the bride who can't stop crying. Dave, Jim and Twiggy have some drinks in the kitchen, and Jim practices his "fatherly" speech. Cheryl thinks Twiggy is trying to "cop" with her, Nana is getting on everyones nerves and Antony got a haircut.

Denise announces that she's pregnant. Jim thinks that Antony may be a "gay boy".

Nana and Twiggy come round for Sunday lunch. Barbara loses her temper during lunch. Denise suspects her mother is going through the menopause, or "the change" as Nana puts it, which worries Jim. And has Antony gotten himself a girlfriend?

Jim isn't best pleased when he learns that Barbara has invited Nana to come and stay with the Royles after her cataract operation. Antony announces that he's become the manager of a band called 'Exit', which the family find hysterical (especially Jim).

Nana has had her cataract operation, so she comes to stay with the Royles. Jim is even less pleased now that she's arrived. Antony's band has split up.

It's a case of he said, she said for Barbara and Jim when Denise and Dave arrive one night. Barbara cries to Denise that she is sick of Jim's laziness and lack of compassion while Jim complains to Dave that it's the menopause that's making Barbara act this way. After a while, Barbara storms out the house, but Jim does nothing and watches "Who Wants to be A Millionare?" with Dave and Denise. Barbara returns, and Jim makes it up to her.

The Royles and all their friends gather at the house to celebrate Antony's 18th birthday. They are all nervous when they finally get to meet his girlfriend Emma. Also, Dave brings in "dog muck" on his shoe.

Christmas Special (1999)

It's Christmas Day. The family have just finished a big Christmas dinner. Barbara learns her turkey wasn't up to scratch, and Dave buys Denise a mobile phone for when the baby is born, even though she uses it to call Barbara on the house phone from upstairs! Antony goes to Emma's shortly afterwards, and Dave takes Nana home. Soon after Dave and Nana have left, Denise goes into labour upstairs in the bathroom, and Jim is left to comfort her. Denise reveals the baby isn't due until 3 weeks. Will the baby and Denise be alright?

Denise and Dave bring their newborn, Baby David to visit his grandparents. Barbara is shocked that Denise is leaving all the work to Dave. Meanwhile, Antony brings Darren over, and he was caught pinching a fridge/freezer from his place of work.

Baby David has stayed the night with Barbara and Jim so Denise and Dave can go to The Feathers for their anniversary. They arrive with hangovers. Meanwhile, Joe cut his hand while grating cheese for Cheryl (was there ever any doubt?!).

Jim and Twiggy decorate the dining area for Baby David's christening (which is in 3 weeks) by scrapping the wallpaper off. Dave is blackmailed into helping when he arrives. Meanwhile in the kitchen, Barbara is cooking bacon butties for everyone whilst talking to Denise and Cheryl.

Nana's old neighbour, Elsie has died and Nana and Barbara have just returned from the funeral. Jim becomes annoyed with Nana's constant "weeping" and the two finally come to blows.

Antony announces that he and Darren, the managers of their band 'Exit' are going to London to find a record deal, of course they get the usual barrage of insults from Jim and Dave, and Nanna contributes to the fund: £3! But the biggest surprise of all comes from Denise!

The day of Baby David's christening has finally arrived. Everyone has gathered at the Royle house for the buffet Barbara has prepared, including Twiggy's new "bird", Michelle. Denise worries she has nothing to talk to Baby David about, while Antony has a surprise announcement, which doesn't exactly thrill Barbara and Jim.

Final Episode: Baby David's first birthday comes around and the Royles' sit down as they did last Christmas. This time they are joined by Darren and Emma, including her parents. Emma's father, Roger can't seem to stop boasting which annoys Jim. When they leave, an unhappy and mad Jim gets the best present of them all: Sky TV! "Roger my arse!"

6 years has passed since we saw Jim receive Sky and since then a lot has happened. Baby David is now Little David, Denise and Dave are expecting baby number 2, Antony and Emma had a boy called Lewis; but they split up, Nana has moved in with the Royles as she is very very very very ill, Cheryl has a new diet, while Joe is still clumsy as ever! And Jim is still in his beloved armchair watching his flatscreen TV and Barbara still runs the place and at the end nana dies and everyone is very sad including jim and jim wishes he could have one last argument with hear.

It's Children in Need night and Barbara annouces to Denise and Dave that Jim is being generous and giving some of his spare change to Children In Need, but Jim is looking for some in his armchair!

Inspired by Nigella, Denise decides to cook Christmas dinner for the family. Jim provides the yuletide log and, much to his dismay, Dave's Mum and Dad are invited to join in with the festivities. What could possibly go wrong?

Jim is "dying" of flu, and it's Comic Relief Night 2009. Antony comes to the house after raising £4,000 for Comic Relief by skydiving from a plane and everybody complaining about the smell coming from Jim's sweaty "balls"!

Dave and Denise are obviously feeling the coalition the most and worry that Anthony's lavish gifts will eclipse their gift of a fridge magnet. Antony and his heavily pregnant girlfriend, Saskia, get a surprise delivery. Joe reminisces about a tipsy evening of naked wrestling in front of the fire with Bobby Carter while Cheryl recounts her romantic encounter in the local supermarket car park.
